High-speed train from Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh to begin operating mid-September

The Egyptian Transport Ministry is set to commence trial operations for the inaugural segment of the high-speed electric train network, linking Ain Sokhna, al-Alamein, and Marsa Matrouh, from mid-September to early October 2026. This trial phase will span six months prior to the official launch and public service commencement. The initial line spans 660 kilometers and is a component of the Ain Sokhna-Dekheila logistics corridor, featuring 21 stations alongside a control center.

The trial operations are slated to commence progressively from the Hadayek October area, subsequently expanding to Wadi al-Natroun, Nubaria, and ultimately Alexandria, as outlined in the operational plan. The planned deployment of Line I comprises 15 high-speed trains, 34 regional trains, and 14 freight locomotives. Operation and safety mechanisms for the high-speed electric trains are underpinned by security systems furnished by specialized foreign entities, complemented by a sophisticated surveillance camera network to safeguard stations and their surroundings.

Egypt's high-speed electric train network presently under development encompasses three lines totaling 2,000 kilometers. This ambitious project aims to bolster the contemporary transportation infrastructure, interconnect cities, industrial zones, and ports, and elevate both passenger and freight transportation.
