Henshaw wins world gold 11 days after being in hospital

Britain's Charlotte Henshaw, a double leg amputee and three-time Paralympic champion, has won her 12th Para-canoe World Championship title, just 11 days after being hospitalized with cellulitis. Henshaw, who typically competes in the KL2 200m event, secured her eighth world title in this category, surpassing four wins in the VL3 equivalent.

Henshaw expressed that winning this title, especially after recovering from illness and doubt, holds a special significance for her. She stated that trusting her body and relying on her experience has been crucial during moments when training and preparation were disrupted. Prior to her hospitalization, Henshaw had not anticipated competing in Poznan, Poland, but ultimately managed to do so and retain her title, which she described as deeply meaningful.

Her teammate, Hope Gordon, also won gold in her event, marking her first Para-canoe World Championship title, while Stuart Wood secured bronze in the men's VL3 event.
