Hasan Piker incites millions against Jews, and the silence is deafening - opinion

In a recent live stream, Twitch personality Hasan Piker directed his millions of followers against Jewish Americans, claiming they would "put this idea out there" that they were "singularly invested in Israel." He likened Israel to "Jewish ISIS" and accused Jews of "making antisemitism worse." Piker's rhetoric mirrors two forms of antisemitism: transactional, where Jews must renounce their identity for safety, and fixed, where Jews are viewed as inherently problematic regardless of their actions.

The transactional form has historical roots, dating back to 1789 when France debated citizenship for Jewish citizens. Over time, this concept has been applied in various forms, including religious-based antisemitism in medieval Europe and the forced conversions of the 14th and 15th centuries. Natan Sharansky, a Soviet dissident, developed a litmus test for modern antisemitism, which includes demonizing Jews or the Jewish state, delegitimizing Jewish self-determination, and applying double standards.

Piker's language combines both forms of antisemitism, offering a transactional approach while labeling Jews as "Jewish ISIS," which equates Jewish identity with absolute evil.
