Haldwani ‘purification’ row: Rahul Gandhi demands justice for Kharge, calls for FIR

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has demanded justice for Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge after a controversial "purification" of Haldwani's Ramlila Maidan. The incident occurred following a rally by Kharge, with Rahul accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-RSS of perpetuating untouchability. Gandhi emphasized that the Constitution of India and the BJP-RSS ideology are at the heart of the conflict in the country.

He highlighted various forms of discrimination faced by Dalits, including restrictions on using wells, segregated seating in schools and tea stalls, and the requirement of wearing helmets during processions. Rahul further pointed out that the BJP practices such actions, which he considers a crime under the Constitution. He called for an FIR to be filed against those responsible for the Haldwani event, stating that it was equivalent to untouchability.

Gandhi clarified that his demand for justice for Kharge was not an isolated case but a reflection of the broader issue of discrimination faced by Dalits across the nation.
