Haldwani ‘purification’ row: Rahul Gandhi demands justice for Kharge, calls for FIR

LoP Rahul Gandhi took a strong stance against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding an FIR against those responsible for purging Haldwani's Ramlila Maidan after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge delivered a speech there. Rahul Gandhi likened the act to "untouchability" and noted that Dalits across the nation face such incidents due to two opposing ideologies – the Constitution of India and the BJP-RSS.

He highlighted centuries of violence against Dalits in India, citing discriminatory practices in schools, water access, and societal customs. Gandhi mentioned that when the Congress Legislative Party Leader visits a temple in Rajasthan or addresses a rally in Haldwani, that place is "purified," similar to what occurs to Kharge. He called the BJP-RSS people responsible for this crime, which is illegal under the Constitution.

Rahul Gandhi emphasized that demanding justice for Kharge is not impossible, urging the state and central governments to ensure Khargeji receives justice in Uttarakhand.
