Go Woo-suk designated for assignment by Minnesota Twins

Minneapolis-based baseball team Minnesota Twins have placed Korean pitcher Go Woo-suk on assignment, marking a setback in his efforts to establish himself in Major League Baseball (MLB). The Twins made the move on Friday, having placed the pitcher with their Triple-A affiliate, the St. Paul Saints, since late July following a brief stint in MLB.

Upon designation for assignment, a player can be traded or placed on irrevocable waivers within a span of seven days. If the designated player manages to clear waivers, meaning no team claims them from the waivers panel, they may be sent to the minors or released, thereby becoming a free agent. As the annual trade deadline had already been passed, Go Woo-suk will now have to wait and observe if any team would claim him from waivers.

Go Woo-suk made his highly anticipated MLB debut for the Twins on July 9, more than two years after moving to the United States by signing with the San Diego Padres. However, his MLB career took an early hit as he appeared in just four games and pitched four innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, including two home runs.

Following this disappointing performance, Go Woo-suk was subsequently optioned to Triple-A after surrendering three runs on four hits in a single game.
