‘Fortunately, my bodyguard retaliated’: Casino director says shooters had recceed his movements

Srinivas Nayak, director of the offshore casino Majestic Pride in Goa, survived an armed attack outside a hotel in Porvorim on Friday night. Two assailants, who had been waiting outside the hotel, opened fire at him as he exited the office to get into his car. Nayak believes the attackers had conducted a reconnaissance of his movements, firing three to four gunshots.

Fortunately, his bodyguard responded with three rounds, forcing the assailants to flee. Nayak, who did not have any known rivalries or prior threats, was unharmed. The attack has raised concerns about business rivalry in the casino industry. The FIR lodged at the Porvorim police station alleges that the assailants "openly fired three to four gunshots towards the complainant" and "endangered the lives of guests and staff present in the hotel lobby."

Police recovered CCTV footage showing the two shooters waiting near the hotel gate before firing. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasized that this is the first such incident during his tenure and that a thorough investigation is underway.
