Fever’s dynamic backcourt, Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, keeps Indiana on record-chasing pace

The Indiana Fever’s dynamic backcourt duo, All-Star guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, continue to set league records as they lead the team to a record-breaking 111-91 victory over the Connecticut Sun. Both guards have each topped the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season, extending their own league record. Mitchell set a new WNBA record for consecutive 20-point games, with her 24th such performance, while Clark added 12 assists for her sixth 30-10 double-double of her career.

Coach Stephanie White compared the Fever’s backcourt to the dynamic duo of Diana Taurasi and Cappie Poindexter, saying "you think back to those Phoenix days, they were a dynamic backcourt that could both up big numbers, could both get their own shot, could get other people involved. But it’s been a long time since we’ve seen the explosiveness of two players like Kelsey and Caitlin."

The Fever, averaging 97.0 points per game after a three-week break, are well ahead of the Phoenix Suns' single-season record of 93.9 in 2010. Clark has surpassed Sue Bird for third on the WNBA’s career list for points-assists double-doubles, and forward Makayla Thompson called Clark "Indiana’s gold." Clark emphasized that it’s not the stats that motivate her, but winning. The Fever are now fourth in the league after a seven-win streak, and Mitchell is catching up to Clark in milestone-setting, with 911 career assists.
