In the wake of the death of Norway's King Harald at the age of 89, tributes and condolences have poured in from around the world. Among them was a statement from US President Donald Trump on his platform, Truth Social. In his post, Trump expressed sadness over the news of King Harald's passing, describing him as a "strong, proud and highly respected man."

He went on to praise the king's dedication to his country and the deep affection he received from his people, adding that he was sending his thoughts and prayers to the royal family and the Norwegian people during this difficult time. King Harald had spent several of his childhood years in the United States, living with his parents and sisters after Norway had to flee the country during World War II.

The royal family resided in the outskirts of Washington D.C., even temporarily living within the White House. During this period, King Harald held meetings with President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Later, he embarked on numerous tours and state visits to the US. When Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre visited President Trump in 2025, he presented him with a picture of King Harald holding President Roosevelt's dog Fala in 1944 as a gift.

The meeting extended longer than initially planned due to Trump's interest in King Harald, according to the Prime Minister, who mentioned that Trump asked many questions about the late king, whom he had come to regard as someone highly esteemed in Norway.
