Atletico down Sevilla to go top of La Liga

Madrid's Atletico Madrid secured top spot in La Liga with a resounding 3-1 win over Sevilla on Saturday. Diego Simeone's team is now 7 points ahead after their opening three matches. Striker Julian Alvarez, the target of interest from Barcelona and Arsenal, was absent from the lineup due to disciplinary issues. Lee Kang-in, a recent signing from Paris Saint-Germain, assisted Alex Baena to score the opener in the fourth minute.

The Rojiblancos extended their lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute when Ademola Lookman capitalized on a pass from the Spanish World Cup winner Marcos Llorente. Baena added a third goal just seven minutes later, driving a shot into the net from outside the box. Sevilla did pull one back through Miguel Sierra's volley in the second half, but could not mount a comeback.

Earlier, Real Betis suffered a 5-2 loss to Levante, ending their perfect start to the season. Betis had secured a Champions League berth with a fifth-place finish last term, but Manuel Pellegrini's side failed to maintain their winning start.
