Atlético Board Blocks Barcelona Move as Álvarez Saga Escalates

Atlético Madrid has firmly stated that they will not negotiate with Barcelona regarding the transfer of forward Julián Álvarez, according to the Guardian. The club's chief executive, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, delivered a harsh public rejection of Barcelona's interest in the Argentine player on Thursday. This comes after Barcelona president Joan Laporta had previously expressed his club's continued interest in signing Álvarez.

However, Gil Marín insisted that Atlético was united in their refusal to engage in any deal with their La Liga rivals. Atlético's board unanimously agreed with this stance, ruling out talks with Barcelona and stating that there was "zero consideration" of a transfer before the summer window closes. Despite Álvarez expressing his desire to leave the club and being booed by Atlético supporters during a recent home match, the board remains steadfast in their decision.

Gil Marín emphasized that his personal dream is for Álvarez to stay with Atlético beyond the deadline, but if he believes that remaining at the club is no longer feasible, the team will look for an alternative, but it will never be Barcelona. Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste responded angrily to Atlético's remarks, accusing them of bad faith and unethical conduct.
