At least 27 dead and hundreds evacuated after strikes near Kyiv

At least 27 people lost their lives in a drone strike near Kyiv, according to the governor of the region, Tymur Tkachenko. The attack targeted the Bucha district, resulting in 42 injuries, four of which were children. Evacuations followed, with 381 individuals displaced due to the destruction. Rescue and recovery efforts continued early on Saturday, as emergency services assessed the damage to buildings.

Tkachenko later disclosed that a 14-year-old boy was killed in a separate attack in the Boryspil district, adding to the tragedy. President Volodymyr Zelensky conveyed his condolences to the affected families, stating that over 300 emergency responders had been dispatched to the affected area. Zelensky also reported additional overnight strikes in Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia.

Ukraine cannot combat such strikes alone, Zelensky emphasized on Telegram, expressing gratitude for international support through packages and sanctions against Russia. The Ukrainian army claimed they had successfully shot down 233 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) overnight, continuing the escalation of attacks between the two nations.

Ukraine has been concentrating its operations on targeting Russian economic assets, while Russia has intensified its strikes on Belgorod and Rostov regions. Governor Yuri Slusar of Rostov reported seven people injured in their recent attack.
