Asante Kotoko must improve finishing despite Democracy Cup triumph – Eric Tinkler

Asante Kotoko's head coach, Eric Tinkler, has urged his players to improve their finishing after leading the club to victory in the 2026 Democracy Cup. The Porcupine Warriors secured their second title with a 4-1 penalty shootout win over rivals Hearts of Oak at Baba Yara Stadium on Friday. Despite the team's overall performance, Tinkler acknowledged that they failed to capitalize on their numerous chances, emphasizing the need for greater efficiency in front of goal as the new season approaches.

"I'm proud of the team, but I think we are still a work in progress," Tinkler stated. "We had over 20 box entries, but we didn't capitalize on them, so we need to work on that. We are creating chances, but we need to put them in the back of the net." While Tinkler sees the recent triumph as a positive sign for the upcoming 2026/27 campaign, he reiterated that significant work remains before his side can meet the high standards he expects.

Kotoko will kick off their Ghana Premier League season on September 6th with a home match against newly promoted Debibi United.
