In November of last year, Ryan Miller, who had been covering the Utah Jazz for KSL, was among those affected by company-wide layoffs. Miller has since transitioned to The Salt Lake Tribune as the new sports editor. Similarly, in November, Tony Jones, who had been the dedicated beat reporter for the Philadelphia 76ers at The Athletic, also found himself leaving the Jazz beat.

Jones' departure marked the end of The Athletic's dream of having a beat reporter for every professional team in North America due to financial constraints.

Currently, as of August 28, only two full-time, dedicated Jazz beat reporters remain: Chandler Holt and Ben Anderson at KSL. It appears that Deseret News is no longer listed among the outlets with a dedicated Jazz beat reporter as of this date.
