Arsenal youngster joins Sheffield United on loan

The young Arsenal defender Sophie Harwood has joined Sheffield United on loan for the upcoming 2026-27 season. At just 18 years old, Harwood made her Arsenal first-team debut last season and signed a professional contract with the club in January. She is set to continue her development in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 with Sheffield United.

Harwood, who can play as a full-back or in midfield, has been a consistent presence in Arsenal’s Under-21s since joining from Southampton two years ago and has also been a regular for the first-team squad. "I’m absolutely buzzing," Harwood expressed upon learning about her move. "To finally be here is such a great feeling. I’ve loved every moment of it since I first arrived."

Sheffield United's head coach Stephen Healy welcomed the opportunity to work with Harwood, noting her quality and versatility as a player.
