Amirudin waiting on Rauf to start Melaka election talks

Pakatan Harapan election director Amirudin Shari is awaiting Melaka Barisan Nasional chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh to commence formal negotiations on political cooperation for the state election, according to PH director Amirudin Shari. Amirudin, who has spoken with Rauf, clarified that Rauf is awaiting policy decisions from Umno and BN's central leadership before proceeding with further discussions.

Any political cooperation must be established on sincerity without imposing conditions prior to negotiations, Amirudin emphasized. Following their victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested BN and Perikatan Nasional would maintain their alliance in the upcoming Melaka polls. However, this arrangement seemed to dissolve when Zahid stated that BN intended to contest all 21 seats they won in the previous Melaka election, while PN contended that negotiations were still underway.

Zahid reiterated BN's willingness to engage in talks regarding seat allocation and potential seat exchanges, provided the discussions were conducted honestly and with sincerity. Melaka comprises 28 state seats, with BN securing 21 in the 2021 state election, compared to PH's five and PN's two. The state government's term is set to conclude on December 31.
