After CIA head’s visit to Moscow, Poland’s PM warns Russia is preparing to escalate war. He puts critical window at seven or eight months

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that the next seven to eight months could determine the security of the region following a recent visit by CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow. Tusk stated that there are indications of serious Russian preparations to escalate tensions in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine and across the region.

These concerns have been echoed by other NATO member countries on the eastern edge, such as Lithuania's President Gitanas Nausėda, who reported on intelligence suggesting potential Russian strikes on critical infrastructure in the Baltic states and Poland. Poland serves as a crucial transit route for Western military aid to Ukraine, making its security directly linked to Ukraine's.

Tusk has previously suggested that Russia might be prepared for a confrontation with Europe as early as 2027. During the meeting, reporters inquired about Ratcliffe's recent visit to Moscow, to which Tusk explained that Poland has constant communication with CIA leadership and was not taken aback by the news. Tusk emphasized that while some information remains confidential, the public should not be denied knowledge of the most critical threats.

The escalation of tensions appears to extend beyond just the CIA director's visit, as Tusk pointed out numerous public signals in recent weeks indicating Russian intentions to escalate the conflict, both in Ukraine and across the broader region. Moscow has openly stated its objectives, with State Duma vice-speaker Pyotr Tolstoy recently describing Ukraine as a territory that would facilitate Moscow's energy exports to Europe, rather than a sovereign nation.

Tolstoy also called for mass bombing of Ukrainian cities to force a surrender. These statements further reinforce the warnings issued by Tusk and other leaders about the potential for a heightened confrontation in the coming months.
