72 rakyat Malaysia sah selamat di Darchen, Tibet

On August 26th, 72 Malaysian citizens were confirmed safe after being caught in a landslide and flash flood in Rasuwa district, Nepal, near the border with Tibet. Darchen, a small town situated at the southern foot of Mount Kailash in Tibet, was the location of the event. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed that the Malaysian High Commission in Beijing had contacted the group and was providing consular assistance, including help for their evacuation from the Tibet Autonomous Region.

However, 55 Malaysian nationals remained untraceable, while two individuals previously reported missing were found. The MFA said the Kuala Lumpur office is working with Nepal's emergency response unit, Nepal Tourist Board, tour operators, and local authorities. The Ministry also stated they are receiving information from Chinese authorities and family members regarding 36 Malaysian citizens untraceable in the telecom-disrupted area.

Efforts are ongoing to contact affected individuals, while their detailed information is being cross-referenced with reports involving Malaysian nationals in Nepal to clarify any discrepancies. Rescue operations in Nepal continue, while authorities monitor the risk of downstream flooding from Tibet. As of 5 pm Nepal time (7:15 pm Malaysia time) yesterday, Nepal's National Disaster Reduction and Management Authority confirmed 771 people, including 116 foreigners, were rescued.

The disaster claimed at least 626 lives in Nepal, while thousands remain missing. However, as of now, no Malaysian nationals have been identified among the rescued according to the official list obtained by the Malaysian High Commission.
