(4th LD) S. Korean response team heads to flood site in Nepal in search of 9 missing

The United Kingdom has sent a Rapid Deployment Team to Nepal to assist British nationals and their families impacted by the catastrophic floods along the Nepal-China border, according to PUNCH Online. The floods, which struck Nepal on August 26, 2026, following a sudden surge of water in the Bhote Koshi River in the Rasuwa district, near the China border, caused extensive damage to homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities, and other infrastructure.

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office announced that the specially trained crisis response staff would arrive in Kathmandu on Saturday to bolster consular operations and coordinate aid with local authorities. The team will work alongside British Embassy personnel and local authorities to provide additional consular support, help British nationals and their loved ones seeking information about missing relatives, liaise with local authorities and emergency responders, and reinforce existing consular activities.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that the UK was deploying the team due to the scale of the emergency, emphasizing the safety and welfare of British nationals as their top priority. The UK is also providing a £5 million humanitarian package to support Nepal's response efforts, which includes contributions from UN, Red Cross, and NGO interventions.
