2027: We don’t need coalition to win election – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its intention to contest the 2027 general elections without entering into a coalition agreement. Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, made this assertion in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. Initially, the ADC had planned to forge a broad coalition as a strategy to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

However, Abdullahi explained that the party has since reassessed its approach. Presently, the opposition parties are focusing on collaboration rather than uniting behind a single presidential candidate. Discussions are centered around potential areas of cooperation, such as election monitoring and vote protection protocols. Abdullahi noted that while initial plans envisioned a coalition to facilitate defeating the APC, the current strategy appears to be built on the premise that the ADC can secure victory independently.

"The ADC doesn’t need a coalition to win this 2027 election. When we started building this coalition, we started on the assumption that if we were able to build a broad-based coalition, it would make our job of beating the APC easier," Abdullahi remarked. He further emphasized that ongoing dialogues among various opposition parties are geared towards finding cooperative avenues, particularly in critical electoral processes.
