YPP, Benyeogor Tackle Kuje Council Chairman over ‘Vote APC or Leave’ Threat

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) has expressed disapproval of Kuje Area Council Chairman Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo's alleged warning to residents who intend to vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. The FCT chapter of the YPP, along with its senatorial candidate, Hon. Blessing Ufedojo Benyeogor, released a statement condemning any conduct that seeks to intimidate citizens, political rivals or public members.

They emphasized that public officials must uphold the rule of law, protect citizens' rights, and foster peace, open dialogue and democratic principles. The statement detailed that such threatening behavior should be handled through lawful and democratic mechanisms. Consequently, they urged the relevant authorities and security forces to investigate the claims and safeguard the liberties of all residents.

The YPP also asked constituents to remain composed, peaceful and law-abiding while the necessary measures are taken. Shekwolo is seen in a circulated video demanding residents either cast their ballot for the APC in the 2027 general election or move out of the area. He stated, "I have made it clear in my area council, it's either you're with the APC or you leave the area council.

I am not arguing with you. With conviction, I am saying this. Given your actions, how can the minister and president continue to treat us unfairly? On election day, if you still insist on opposing me, I will not consent. It is either you align with us or you cease to reside here."
