Yassin Kampung stores closed & empty weeks after debt recovery collectors seen at an outlet
A food supplier company was allegedly owed an outstanding debt of more than S$60,000.
Restaurant outlets of Yassin Kampung, a family chain, remained closed and empty for several weeks following visits by debt recovery collectors. When the Mothership team inspected their outlets at Admiralty and Marsiling after 8 PM on Tuesday, August 25, both establishments were vacant, with boxes inside and no staff or customers present. The outlets' operating hours are 11 AM to 11:30 PM at Admiralty and 10 AM to 11 PM at Marsiling. Despite reaching out to the two stores on August 27, no one answered the calls.
A.S.K Credit Collectors, who wore uniforms displaying "A.S.K Credit Collectors," were spotted outside Yassin Kampung at Admiralty recently. Instagram accounts belonging to the restaurant chain showed signs of inactivity, with the handle "yassinkampung" unavailable on the platform. When Mothership checked the status on August 25, the account was also found inactive.
Upon reaching out to A.S.K Debt Recovery, their spokesperson confirmed that their staff had visited several outlets, including Yassin Kampung's Admiralty location. The company stated that the purpose of these visits was to follow up on a debt of over S$60,000 owed by Yassin Kitchen Pte Ltd to a food supplier company. Prior to the visits, they had attempted numerous times to connect with relevant personnel, but their calls and communication attempts were unsuccessful.
During their site visits, A.S.K Debt Recovery's representatives attempted to speak with the appropriate authorities and resolve the issue. However, the office was reportedly closed at the time of their visit. The company then left a letter of demand at the premises, along with its manager's contact details. The outlet staff declined to accept the documents or engage with the representatives, according to the debt recovery company's spokesperson.
They emphasized that there was no intent to cause disturbance to the outlet, its employees, or its customers.
The spokesperson also mentioned that despite calls, messages, office visits, and visits to the relevant outlets, there had been no meaningful response. The situation highlights the challenges faced by suppliers when substantial amounts remain outstanding despite repeated attempts to obtain payment or establish communication with the debtor. Mothership has contacted Yassin Kitchen Pte Ltd for further information.
