‘We just want them to return’: relatives of Australians missing in Nepal floods wait anxiously for news of loved ones

The families of Australians missing in Nepal floods remain hopeful they will be found safe. Dozens are missing after devastating flooding on the Nepal-Tibet border. Nepal's disaster management authority reported more than 1,900 people missing, including 584 who have been killed. One Australian woman confirmed she had survived the flood, while Karan Bhardwaj, a 40-year-old Royal Australian Air Force member, is desperately loved by his family.

His family is praying, hoping, and believing that he is safe and making his way back to them. Shylaja Muralitharan, her husband, Chandrasekaran, and their two sons were on a pilgrimage when the flood hit. The family of four was part of a trekking group and planned to head towards an immigration checkpoint on the Tibet-Nepal border.

Vaishnavi Muralitharan, Shylaja's younger sister, expressed hope that they will be rescued soon. Vaishnavi also confirmed the family's connection with other members of the group, who were also from Sydney for the Hindu pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in Tibet.
