Vancouver Whitecaps sign defender Tate Johnson to multiyear extension

Vancouver Whitecaps defender Tate Johnson has signed a multiyear contract extension with the Major League Soccer club. The American fullback, who was drafted 15th overall by the ‘Caps in 2025, will be part of the team through the 2029-30 season with an option for 2030-31. Johnson, a 21-year-old from the University of North Carolina, has played 68 games for Vancouver across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing five assists.

He played a key role in the team's recent success, helping them secure a fourth consecutive Canadian Championship, an MLS Western Conference title, and a spot in the MLS Cup final last season. Johnson is also a member of the United States’ youth national program, having made appearances for the U-20 and U-21 teams.
