Umno seeks top PAS leadership for PAU2026, report says. KUALA LUMPUR: The ruling party Umno will invite the highest leadership of PAS to attend the Umno Grand Assembly (PAU) 2026 next month in return, the party reportedly invited its leader to attend its annual Muktamar, according to Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Umno's Deputy Chairman. The decision, reported by media after a meeting of Umno's Top Working Committee (MKT) late on Monday, was reached to honor PAS leadership and reciprocate the invitation extended to Umno's leadership for attending the Umno Annual Muktamar.

PAU2026 is scheduled from September 9 to 12. Earlier, reports suggested PAS had invited Umno President Zahid Hamidi and three other party leaders to attend the Umno's 72nd Muktamar in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Zahid confirmed on August 23 that Umno would send a delegate to the event, though the delegate's identity has not been finalized.

The 72nd annual Muktamar of PAS is slated from September 2 to 5, with its main event marking PAS President Hadi Awang's swearing-in on September 4. The development comes as Umno and PAS relations return to the limelight amid political cooperation between the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the PRN Negeri Sembilan, early this month.

The understanding has seen BN and PN controlling 25 of 36 seats, forming the government of Negeri Sembilan. The victory also shows potential for the cooperation to expand even to PRU16, including the recently expected PRN Melaka ahead of the year's end.
