Ukraine confirms strike on major Russian oil refinery in Yaroslavl

Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia's Yaroslavl Oblast, on August 28. The attack resulted in a fire breaking out at the facility, according to Ukraine's General Staff. The Yaroslavl refinery is one of the country's largest oil-processing plants and is operated by the Slavneft public joint-stock company.

With a processing capacity of around 15 million tons of oil annually, the plant handles various refining processes, including the production of automotive gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, lubricants, and other petroleum products. The General Staff stated that the refinery contributes to supplying Russia's military forces.

Initial reports of explosions and a fire in Yaroslavl, Russia, surfaced earlier, and monitoring channels reported strikes on the refinery. Ukrainian defense company Fire Point claimed the facility was targeted by FP-1 drones. Additional reports suggested drone attacks on Moscow and Engels in Russia.
