UK far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos arrested by US immigration

US immigration officials apprehended British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Thursday, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The officials stated that Yiannopoulos was accused of overstaying his legal entry into the United States in May 2019. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22, after Yiannopoulos failed to attend his hearing.

The Department of Homeland Security spokesperson emphasized that Yiannopoulos chose to violate U.S. laws by overstaying his visa. While the current location of Yiannopoulos is unknown, his family and legal representatives are directed to the agency's office in Alexandria, Louisiana. The identity of Yiannopoulos' legal representation remains unclear.

The British national has been a prominent figure advocating conservative causes and often takes controversial positions criticizing feminism, Islam, and immigrants. He has previously expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump's immigration policies. Yiannopoulos gained prominence in the early 2010s as a writer for the conservative website Breitbart News, but he resigned in 2017 following allegations of endorsing pedophilia.

He later apologized for the remarks and claimed to be a victim of sexual assault as a minor. The arrest of Yiannopoulos follows a rise in detentions related to Trump's immigration crackdown. Yiannopoulos' case has drawn attention from far-right conservative activist Laura Loomer, who praised his arrest on social media, alleging that he incited violence against President Trump and worked for Marjorie Taylor Greene in the past.
