Ugandan King Oyo Nyimba, once world's youngest monarch, dies at 34

Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the Ugandan king who became the world's youngest reigning monarch at the age of three in 1995, has passed away at the age of 34, announced his kingdom's prime minister. Uganda operates as a republic with traditional monarchies that hold symbolic political power but significant cultural and social influence.

The king was the ruler of Tooro, a small kingdom in western Uganda near the Democratic Republic of Congo. Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki expressed deep sadness over the king's death, which occurred at 10:00 p.m. local time on Thursday. The king's cause of death has not been disclosed. Rukidi IV was named to the throne after his father's death in 1995 and had received treatment in the United States prior to his passing.

His unmarried status and the presence of an heir ensure continuity of the royal line. Oyo Nyimba's death has sparked widespread mourning across Uganda, with prominent Ugandan figures, including opposition leader Bobi Wine, mourning the loss in social media posts.
