‘Time to end threat culture at JU’: Suvendu Adhikari at Vande Mataram event

Jadavpur University Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari declared on Friday that it is time to put an end to the "threat culture" at the institution and reestablish nationalism both inside and outside the campus. The CM made these remarks during an event outside the JU campus where 'Vande Mataram' was sung by a crowd of 10,000 individuals. The CM had called for this event following ABVP-SFI clashes at the university last week, with the aim of fostering a stronger sense of nationalism at JU.

Adhikari accused the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) and left-leaning governments of undermining "nationalism" and the state's traditions. He also alleged that the university had been heavily influenced by communists, who he claimed had steered students away from nationalistic symbols such as Independence Day, Republic Day, Indian and Bengali traditions, and the nation's cultural heritage. "In their homes, you wouldn't find pictures of Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, or Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar," he claimed.

Furthermore, the CM criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, alleging that it had reached an understanding with certain students for electoral benefits. He stated, "The only dividend was that in elections, they would say, 'No vote to BJP, no vote to Narendra Modi.' Mamata, who lost to me twice, would reap the benefit. That is why this force was kept alive here."

Adhikari further lambasted university students for participating in protest marches against Operation Sindoor, arguing that they should prioritize the freedom of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir before raising slogans for Kashmir or Palestine. "Are you raising slogans like 'Kashmir mangey aazadi' and 'free Palestine'? Why? Before talking about Palestine, write 'Free PoK'. Remember, we will definitely take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," Adhikari emphasized.
