Thousands watch National Day rehearsal at Dataran Putrajaya ahead of Aug 31 parade

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 28 — Thousands of people are flocking to the iconic Dataran Putrajaya to catch a glimpse of the preparations and rehearsals for the highly anticipated 2026 National Day parade. On the morning of Aug 28, visitors began arriving as early as 6:30 am to witness the lively parade rehearsals, which included impressive displays by security forces and a musical performance by Rebana Ubi.

Participants and visitors alike praised the nearly two-hour parade rehearsal for its role in instilling patriotism and fostering love for the country, especially among the younger generation. For Mohd Helmi Masuhudi, a Royal Malaysian Navy personnel, participating in the Jalur Gemilang flag-raising ceremony was a great honor. He expressed pride in representing the RMN at this grand occasion, noting that it reminds them of the harmony, peace and unity among Malaysia's various races.

Nur Alya Natasya Muhamad Solehin, 24, attended the rehearsal to show moral support for her father, who was directly involved in the parade. As a first-time attendee with her four-month-old baby, she remained excited despite the long wait. Retired Siti Haidah Idris, 68, shared her delight in watching the rehearsal live for the first time, emphasizing how it offered a unique experience compared to watching it on television.

Customs officer Nurshazarina Abd Karim, 43, took the opportunity to spend time with her family, hoping to instill a spirit of patriotism in her children. Goods supplier Hafizur Rahman Azzaharuddin, 27, expressed admiration for the spirited and energetic performances, particularly the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and Malaysian Army (TDM) contingents.

R. Tarishini, 26, represented a dance troupe for the first time and shared her excitement in showcasing Malaysia's cultural arts to thousands of spectators while fostering unity and patriotism.

The 69th National Day celebration, themed 'Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati,' is set to take place on Aug 31 at Dataran Putrajaya, with over 80,000 visitors expected to attend.
