The One That Got Away: HONOR Robot Phone

The HONOR Robot Phone debuted a few weeks ago, and it is currently only available in the Chinese market. The company granted us a chance to familiarize ourselves with the device, giving us a glimpse of what Malaysian consumers are missing out on. The Robot Phone's design is easily identifiable, even when the camera gimbal is retracted.

While the gimbal cover is a bit loose and flimsy, it comfortably glides back and forth, allowing quick access to the camera. The other cameras sit on a platform adjacent to the gimbal, adding considerable bulk to the handset, which also tends to be on the heavier side. However, its weight is not as pronounced as initially perceived.

For those familiar with HONOR's current generation of book-style foldables, the Robot Phone feels similarly weighted in the hand, but its compact size makes it less likely to fit comfortably in a pocket. Instead, it functions as a companion for content creation. The standout feature of the handset is undoubtedly the 200MP gimbal camera.

It extends out upon pressing a button, provided the cover is removed, and it remains stationary if obstructed. The phone also alerts users when the gimbal is not in use. Lastly, the AI button triggers the onboard assistant, YOYO.
