Sultan Selangor warns against greed, abuse of trust

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has warned against greed and the misuse of trust in Selangor, stating that such behavior undermines public confidence and societal well-being. He expressed concern that some individuals continue to profit from breaches of trust while justice is compromised, often due to a lack of integrity and responsibility.

Sultan Selangor emphasized that those who commit injustice will face Allah's judgment, and cautioned against believing that such wrongdoers will escape punishment. He urged Muslims to reject any form of breach of trust, emphasizing that it can erode public trust and the overall well-being of society.

The Sultan's remarks came after a Yasin recitation, prayers, and tahlil in celebration of Selangor’s 69th National Day at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque. Other attendees included the Selangor Regent and the Chief Minister. The Sultan also heard a Friday sermon titled "Merdeka daripada belenggu Kerakusan" (Freedom from the shackles of greed), which called on Muslims to reflect on the meaning of independence by breaking free from greed, uncontrolled desires, and betrayal.

He stressed that true independence starts with individuals controlling themselves and refraining from actions that could harm their lives and society.

Sultan Sharafuddin highlighted the increasing signs of declining integrity, such as entrusting important responsibilities to unqualified individuals or abusing trust for personal gain. He urged Muslims to reject any breach of trust, as it can undermine public confidence and the well-being of society. Those entrusted with managing public assets and funds, he said, have a significant responsibility before Allah.

"Managing public funds with integrity is a sign of our love for the people and the country," he stated. "Do not allow wealth that should benefit the people to be misappropriated for personal gain."

Sultan Selangor stressed that everyone has a duty to fulfill their entrusted responsibilities honestly, regardless of its perceived insignificance. He reiterated that integrity and trust are essential foundations for a stable society and the true meaning of independence. "The guilty must be punished, those who are trustworthy must be supported, and a good system must continue to be improved from time to time," he concluded.
