South African dam levels have fallen slightly as the country approaches summer, according to reports from EWN. The overall dam levels decreased from 80.1% to 79.7%, while the Cape Town Water Supply System dipped from 77.2% to 76.3%. The Theewaterskloof Dam remains at 76.7%, although several dams like Clanwilliam and Akkerkloof are comparatively stronger.

Authorities are already contemplating the introduction of water restrictions if levels continue to decline. Meanwhile, a high-profile police investigation has resurfaced in court. Suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola and several other senior officials are due back in Pretoria Magistrate's Court over a controversial R228 million SAPS tender.

Masemola faces four charges under the Public Finance Management Act, including allegations of failing to prevent irregular and wasteful expenditure. Her co-accused face charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering. Meanwhile, a new study by Johannesburg clinician scientist Dr Nene Mboweni-Kondlo offers hope for South African heart failure patients.

The research, conducted in 2025, discovered that one in five patients with heart failure also had atrial fibrillation, a condition that leads to more advanced disease, poorer quality of life, and a history of stroke. Dr Mboweni-Kondlo emphasizes the need for earlier diagnosis, better management of risk factors like hypertension and diabetes, and greater access to specialized care, particularly catheter ablation.

She advocates for larger South African studies to ensure treatment approaches are tailored to the local population.
