On May 22, 2025, Detroit rapper Skilla Baby was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Redford, Michigan, which left him with three gunshot wounds and forced him into months of surgery to recover. This traumatic incident, however, altered the trajectory of his career and led to the creation of his critically acclaimed debut album, "The Price of Fame."

Upon reflection of his life moments before the shooting, Skilla realized the importance of putting his emotions and experiences into his music. As he raps on the album's title track, he states, "My life had flashed before my eyes, now this s–t crystal clear."

Through his association with renowned figures such as 50 Cent and Nas, Skilla Baby has found the support and guidance necessary to rejuvenate his passion for music. 50 Cent appeared in a teaser trailer for the album and helped Skilla secure an acting agency, leading to a role in the upcoming Starz series Power: Origins. Nas blessed Skilla with a verse on the track "Respect My Gangsta," affirming that they share a similar mindset.
