Seven bodies wash into India from Nepal after devastating floods, identification underway

Lucknow, Aug 28 — Indian authorities have recovered seven bodies from rivers originating in Nepal, believed to be victims of devastating floods, officials said Friday, highlighting the extent of the deadly disaster. The bodies were discovered floating in rivers in the Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts of Uttar Pradesh state, which shares a border with Nepal’s southern flood-stricken Chitwan region.

According to Maharajganj district magistrate Gaurav Singh Sogarwal, "Four unidentified bodies were recovered in the district on Thursday. We think they have been swept into India from Nepal following flash floods there." Three more bodies were recovered in the Kushinagar district, located around 70 kilometers (43 miles) downstream from the frontier, confirmed a police official.

Officials are currently working to identify the bodies. At least 472 people have been killed in the floods, with 469 bodies recovered in Nepal and three in China. Additionally, over 1,400 individuals remain missing. However, the seven bodies found in India are not included in these statistics.
