Scottie Scheffler in the mix, healthy after Friday at Tour Championship as Ryan Gerard, Viktor Hovland take the lead

Scottie Scheffler is on his way to the weekend at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, trailing just two shots off the lead. The top-ranked golfer in the world had a minor hand, foot and mouth issue last week but is now feeling much better. Heading into the final event of the season at East Lake, Scheffler is just 8-under for the week after posting a 3-under 67 on Friday.

This performance wasn't enough to push him into the lead, however. Instead, it was Ryan Gerard who surged ahead with a near-perfect day, finishing at 10-under after a final birdie at the 18th hole. Viktor Hovland followed suit, also finishing at 10-under after saving birdie at the same hole. Scheffler entered the second round four shots back, but quickly made up for it by making five birdies in a seven-hole span around the turn.

If it weren't for a missed green at the 17th, he would have won the round with an eagle. Hovland and Collin Morikawa each posted a 66 on Friday to join Gerard at 10-under. Young, who opened the week with an even-par 70, is also back in contention after making seven birdies and an eagle in his round. Rory McIlroy, on the other hand, has struggled significantly, starting with a double bogey-bogey combination early in the round.

With the FedExCup and a $10 million prize on the line, all eyes are on Gerard now as he looks to hold on to the lead in the final two days of play.
