Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: Accused moves to plead guilty

In a recent development regarding the stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, the accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam, has filed a plea to plead guilty in a Mumbai court. Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested two days after the incident and is currently in judicial custody. His lawyer Vipul Dushing informed IANS that they have submitted an application to the court expressing their intention to plead guilty, while also seeking leniency from the court.

The court has adjourned the hearing to September 11, after which the prosecution is expected to file its response.

Earlier this month, the Additional Sessions Judge G P Deshmukh had framed charges against Shariful Islam for robbery with a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass. The charges also included violations of the Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry into India) Rules. Despite initially pleading not guilty, Shariful Islam had since changed his stance and is now seeking to plead guilty in hopes of receiving a more lenient sentence.

The incident occurred on January 16, 2025, when Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times in his Bandra residence by an intruder. He was taken to Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery following the attack, where doctors discovered six injuries, including two deep wounds on his left hand and neck. The case has generated significant discussion on social media, with many expressing concern over the vulnerability of celebrities to such targeted crimes.
