Democracy Is Not For Sale: CHRAJ investigator urges voters to choose competence over money in elections

George Adzovie, Chief Investigator at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has called upon Ghanaians to focus on a candidate's competence, integrity and leadership qualities when casting their vote, rather than being swayed by financial incentives. He emphasized that the essence of democracy lies in empowering citizens to elect leaders with the necessary skills and attributes to enhance society.

Speaking at Adom Brands' public dialogue titled "Democracy Is Not For Sale", Adzovie cautioned voters against letting monetary inducements influence their decision-making process, warning that such behavior could result in the election of individuals who lack the ability to serve the public interest effectively. He urged citizens to evaluate candidates based on their leadership capabilities and potential impact on national development, rather than financial offerings.

According to Adzovie, the primary criterion in any election should be a candidate's ability to provide effective leadership. He referenced the 1992 Constitution, stating that it outlines the specific criteria for voter participation in Ghana's democratic process. Adzovie urged citizens to safeguard the integrity of Ghana's democracy by making informed electoral choices based on competence, integrity and leadership qualities, instead of relying on financial inducements.
