Rajasthan Issues H1N1 Alert As Swine Flu Cases Rise To 146; August Records Highest Monthly Tally

Jaipur, August 28, 2026 - The Rajasthan Medical and Health Department has issued an alert across the state due to a significant rise in H1N1 swine flu cases, with 146 cases reported since January 2026, of which 55 were recorded in August, marking the highest monthly total this year. Health authorities have instructed all medical institutions in Rajasthan to be fully prepared for screening, treatment, and referral of suspected and confirmed influenza cases.

Rajasthan Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar reported that the number of H1N1-positive cases has steadily increased from 2 in January to 55 in August. Health Department Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore explained that the sharp increase in August has led to heightened preparedness, noting that the circulating virus strain is the same as previous years, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Despite the rise, Rathore emphasized that there is no indication of a new or more dangerous strain of the H1N1 virus in Rajasthan. She urged the public not to panic, but to remain cautious and seek medical advice promptly if they experience influenza-like symptoms, advising against postponing medical consultations. Authorities emphasized the need for vigilance and against antibiotic misuse.
