Police recover body of Correctional Service officer from drainage in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command has announced the recovery of the body of Deputy Superintendent of Correctional Service, Michael Apepende, from a drainage channel in Calabar. The tragic discovery took place on Friday morning, around 10:30am, along Barrack Road, in close proximity to the Nigerian Chronicle House. Akim Division officers were alerted to the find and successfully retrieved the body from the drainage channel.

Apepende was confirmed as a member of the Nigerian Correctional Service. His body has since been taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination, aimed at uncovering the circumstances and cause of his untimely demise. ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the command has initiated an investigation into the incident.

He emphasized that additional information will be released as the investigation unfolds. The police have advised the public to refrain from making assumptions about the officer’s death while the details of the case are being sorted out.
