PM promises bold deregulation

SEOUL, August 28 - Prime Minister Han Seong-sook pledged on Friday to substantially deregulate the economy in order to foster an even playing field for all businesses. Speaking at a regulatory reform forum organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, she emphasized her commitment to streamlining rules and encouraging innovation.

Han stated that her administration would strive to lift as many regulations as feasible, aiming to enable individuals and companies to experiment with new ideas and invest confidently. By simplifying the regulatory environment, she believes the nation can generate robust growth that benefits the entire populace.

The prime minister outlined plans to compile a comprehensive list of regulations that can be addressed through inter-ministerial cooperation or by amending current statutes. She also highlighted the government's intention to seek consensus on areas where different interests clash.

However, Prime Minister Han made clear that certain regulations protecting individual well-being would not be compromised. She reiterated that the safety and welfare of citizens remain an absolute priority that cannot be sacrificed for the sake of deregulation.
