Pims starts referring serious gynae cases to Polyclinic, Rawalpindi hospitals after deadly fire

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has started referring serious gynaecological cases to the Polyclinic and other hospitals in Rawalpindi following a deadly fire that claimed the lives of 14 newborn babies. Holy Family Hospital (HFH) has accepted seven gynaecological patients and a child from Pims, as the nursery at Pims has been destroyed and will take time to renovate.

A senior gynaecologist stated that while Pims has a no-refusal policy, they decided to refer serious cases to other hospitals due to the limited capacity of the nursery for repairs. BBH, another hospital in Rawalpindi, has not received any patients from Pims so far, but a special desk has been set up to receive them if necessary.

BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Sharjeel Sheikh reported that the hospital's fire equipment was working fine and a mock exercise for fire safety had been conducted on August 8. Meanwhile, HFH reported that four female patients had been referred to their hospital by Pims for treatment, and they had made special arrangements for the patients shifted from Pims.
