Nigerian Pro Golf Quartet Arrive Kampala for Uganda Open

Four Nigerian professional golfers, Sunday Olapade, Solomon Ideria, Tajudeen Ajayi, and Godwin Okoko, are set to compete at the 2026 Ugandan Open in Kampala, as part of their East African journey. The quartet have been traveling since June, participating in various tournaments across the region to gain exposure, experience, and World Ranking points.

Their participation is a result of the Sunshine Development Tour Qualifiers held in Lagos, which created a pathway for Nigerian professionals to compete on the Sunshine Development Tour.

Olapade acknowledges the importance of the initiative in a country where limited competitive opportunities exist for golf professionals. He explains that many Nigerian players are idle at home due to the state of Nigerian Professional Golf. However, those who seized the opportunity at the SDT Qualifiers in Lakowe have leveraged it for exposure and World Ranking points, as evidenced by Okoko's second-place finish at the ABSA Invitational in Ruiru Golf Club.

Ideria expresses his appreciation for the support and cohesion within the team, looking forward to continuing the campaign with events in Kigali, Uganda. Ajayi, too, anticipates the positive impact of these experiences, particularly returning home to compete in front of his fans and sponsors. Lakowe Lakes Golf Club plans to extend the initiative by featuring its flagship event, the Lakowe Lakes Classic, on the Sunshine Development Tour in October.

Additionally, the Alpha Bravo Classic event is set to debut on the SDT-East Africa Swing at Lakowe Lakes Golf Club in November. This demonstrates the value of creating international competitive pathways for Nigerian professionals, with the Kampala appearance highlighting the importance of such opportunities for global exposure.
