New PENGASSAN Team to Partner NURPC to Unlock 3m Bpd

The new leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has pledged to collaborate closely with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in order to increase oil production to 3 million barrels per day by 2030. Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, the newly elected President of PENGASSAN, made this statement during a visit to the headquarters of NUPRC in Abuja.

Olabiyi-Agoro emphasized the importance of working together to achieve this target, stating, "We can assure you that we are here to collaborate. We will be very reasonable." He also assured that issues concerning workers' rights to freely associate and join the union are non-negotiable. Contract staffing, on the other hand, will be a key issue addressed by his administration.

In response to Olabiyi-Agoro's visit, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the Chief Executive of NUPRC, expressed the federal government's commitment to increasing production. She noted that under President Bola Tinubu, production has risen from 1.1 million barrels per day a few years ago to an estimated 1.755 million barrels per day in 2026. However, Eyesan stressed that industrial stability is crucial for achieving higher production targets, and sought PENGASSAN's support for this endeavor.

Eyesan outlined the ambitious goals set by the federal government, aiming to grow production from the current level to 3 million barrels per day by 2030. Specifically, she mentioned the goal of expanding gas production from under 8 cubic feet per day to 12 cubic feet per day by the same target year.
