Nepal Flash Floods: Satellite Images Capture Devastating Before-And-After Scenes

Kathmandu: A catastrophic flash flood in Nepal has left at least 469 people dead and over 1,468 reported missing, devastating villages, roads, and hydropower infrastructure. Satellite imagery from Vantor Satellite Imagery showcases the scale of destruction along a 10-mile stretch of the Trishuli River, with the Rasuwagadhi border post on the Nepal-China border appearing entirely washed out.

Scientists hypothesize that a massive glacier fragment may have triggered the flood, causing water to build up and surge downstream with force. Among the unaccounted for are hundreds of foreign tourists and Hindu pilgrims journeying to the sacred Mt Kailash region in Tibet. More than 30 countries are represented among the missing, with 910 people still unaccounted for, including 517 foreign nationals.

China reports at least three fatalities and 558 missing, with 260 of those missing being foreigners. India's External Affairs Ministry confirms 288 Indian nationals remain missing, including 73 working on a power project. The US State Department states that 90 Americans are unaccounted for, with no reported American deaths. Three Americans have been successfully rescued.
