Human graphic structure safe despite slight swaying, says Fahmi

The National Day 2026 celebrations feature a human graphic display in a structure erected at Dataran Putrajaya. Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has confirmed the structure is safe despite a slight movement. The slight swaying is due to the design's inherent flexibility, akin to a bridge, allowing for some tolerance.

This flexibility is necessary as the human graphic moves in sync with the performance's rhythm. Fahmi explained that the structure cannot be overly rigid as it would hinder the performers' movements. He inspected the preparations and rehearsals at Dataran Putrajaya and expressed relief that no safety concerns arose. This is the third time the structure has been used, and it has not presented any issues thus far.

However, a video on social media showed the structure swaying slightly, causing public concern. Fahmi clarified that the perception of the structure's off-centre positioning was due to the PPJ building and the parade route not aligning perfectly. The building is slightly off from the road's axis. He also mentioned that this year's reduced participant number (from 2,000 to 1,500) contributed to the asymmetry's visibility.

Fahmi assured that the secretariat would make minor adjustments in the future to minimize the perceived asymmetry.
