Nalerigu youth give Health Minister two weeks to resolve nursing college principal’s suspension

The Nalerigu Youth Association (NAYA) has demanded that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh resolve the issue surrounding the suspension of Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery College Principal Ibrahim Chimsi within two weeks. NAYA expressed their concern over the circumstances of the suspension and requested his reinstatement. The suspension came after Health Minister's visit to the college on February 28, 2026, over the institution exceeding its approved student quota.

While acknowledging the Ministry's responsibility to ensure compliance with quotas and regulations, NAYA argued that this should be handled through transparent and established administrative procedures. The Association expressed disappointment in the lack of meaningful engagement between the Ministry of Health and the Nayiri, Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, who had sent delegations to plead for Chimsi's reinstatement.

NAYA urged the Health Minister to involve the Nayiri and other stakeholders to find a solution. Additionally, the Association called for an investigation into allegations of insubordination and mismanagement involving the Vice Principal and some teaching staff, and mentioned that alumni requested Chimsi's reinstatement. NAYA stated that they would consider any appropriate lawful, peaceful, and constitutionally permissible administrative avenues if the matter remains unresolved after two weeks, but firmly stressed that they would not support violence or unlawful conduct.
