Mumbai Milk Prices: Wholesale Rate To Rise ₹9 Per Litre From September 1 Amid Higher Production Costs

Mumbai, August 28, 2026 - The Mumbai Milk Producers Association (MMPA) has announced a 9 rupee per litre increase in the wholesale price of milk, effective from September 1, 2026, as part of preparations for the upcoming festival season. The new wholesale price will rise from 93 to 102 rupees per litre and will remain in effect until February 28, 2027, according to the association's president, Chandra Kumar Singh.

The decision was made unanimously at the association's general body meeting held on August 28, 2026, in Jogeshwari. The association cited rising costs of milch animals, cattle feed, and fodder as the primary reasons for the price hike. Milch animal prices have surged, while feed costs, including items like dana, tur chuni, and chana chuni, have increased by up to 25%.

The association noted that the increased input costs have put milk producers under financial strain, prompting the need for this revision. The last price hike was implemented in February 2026, and producers have been absorbing the additional costs since then. The association emphasized that the wholesale price increase does not automatically translate into higher retail prices, as individual suppliers, retailers, and brands may set their own prices.

Current retail prices for milk in Mumbai range from 57 to 60 rupees per litre for cow milk and 65 to 70 rupees per litre for loose or locally supplied cow milk.
