Mumbai: BMC Proposes 10 Per Cent Hike In Parking Charges At Public Lots And On-Street Parking Sites

Mumbai residents may soon experience a 10 percent increase in parking fees, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The proposal, which is expected to be submitted to Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide for approval next month, aims to raise parking costs at public parking lots and on-street parking sites by 10 percent.

Currently, Mumbai operates around 37 public parking lots and 67 on-street parking sites, with charges divided into A, B and C categories. For two-wheelers, charges range from Rs 5 per hour to Rs 30 for 12 hours, while three- and four-wheelers face minimum charges of Rs 20 per hour, rising to Rs 70 for 12 hours. The BMC's traffic department had previously proposed a 46.40 percent surge in parking fees, citing inflation and rising operational costs over the past few years.

However, the commissioner rejected a steep hike and mandated officials to prepare a revised proposal with only a 10 percent increase for all categories of parking facilities for two years.
