Microsoft's virtual intern Teams Facilitator will be late for the meeting

Microsoft has delayed the release of its Teams Facilitator AI assistant by several months. The virtual assistant, which joins meetings to track agendas, take notes, and answer questions when it detects a knowledge gap, was originally scheduled for June. Now, Microsoft plans to launch the feature in November and make it generally available mid-December.

The delay may be due to challenges in determining when a lull in conversation signals a question needing an answer or difficulty ensuring the search results align with the meeting's context. Privacy concerns have also arisen, as the feature requires access to meeting conversations to process in real-time. The Teams Facilitator's functionality relies on Microsoft 365 Copilot, making data privacy a potential issue.

While the premium edition of Microsoft 365 Copilot is required for the feature, disabling web search for Copilot will prevent any responses from the assistant. Despite the delay, Microsoft's decision to wait before introducing the virtual assistant might lead to a more polished and less intrusive experience.
